Taylor Swift’s Best Friend Abigail Announces Pregnancy With the Perfect ‘Tortured Poets’ Lyric

Once upon a time, Abigail gave everything she had to a boy who changed his mind. Nearly 20 years later, she’s about to be a mom, something she announced via Instagram on Wednesday by borrowing the perfect lyric from her high school best friend Taylor Swift.

Sharing a photo of her baby bump — which she complemented with a half-open button-down shirt and a box of Cheez-Its — Abigail Anderson revealed her pregnancy to followers by simply writing, “I’m having his babyyyy…,” alongside a blue heart emoji.

The Tennessee resident married husband Charles Berard in 2022. This is the couple’s first child together.

The phrase in Anderson’s caption is a reference to Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department anthem “But Daddy I Love Him,” on which the pop star sings, “Now I’m running with my dress unbuttoned/ Screaming ‘But Daddy, I love him!’/ I’m having his baby/ No, I’m not, but you should see your faces.”

Shortly after the post went up, Swift joined several other friends in congratulating her bestie, whom she met when they were both teenagers living in the Nashville area of Tennessee. “When the internet says ‘MOTHER’ I feel like this pic is actually what they mean,” she wrote in the replies.

Keleigh Teller also commented, “Ahh congrats,” while Blake Lively wrote, “Omg congratssssss!!!!”

Many of the other well-wishers on Anderson’s post were Swifties, who’ve kept up with the financial tech executive since the 14-time Grammy winner gave her a shout-out on the Fearless single “Fifteen.” “You sit in class next to a red-head named Abigail/ And soon enough you’re best friends,” Swift recalls on the track. “Laughing at the other girls/ Who think they’re so cool/ We’ll be out of here as soon as we can.”

“Abigail gave everything she had to a boy who changed his mind,” she sings elsewhere in the song. “And we both cried/ ‘Cause when you’re fifteen/ And somebody tells you they love you/ You’re gonna believe them.”

Anderson has also been a fierce supporter of Swift’s for the entirety of the singer’s career, from attending the Grammys with her bestie in 2015 to posting praise about her music on Instagram. More recently, the musician dedicated an Eras Tour acoustic performance of “Fifteen” to her “beautiful, redheaded high school best friend,” who was in attendance that night at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium.
