Moby Offers Advice After Trump Win: ‘It’s Not Going to Benefit Anybody to Doomscroll’

Moby has joined the chorus of musicians who’ve responded to Donald Trump’s win in the 2024 U.S. presidential election.

On Wednesday (Nov. 6), the producer and activist posted a video of himself outside in New York City, addressing the camera by saying “So obviously the election results are terrible and America and Americans have clearly made a really bad decision, but the question is what do we do now? And for me, and I hope for you as well, there’s no point in making ourselves feel worse.”

While many people across the nation are reeling over Trump’s win, Moby advised that “It’s not going to benefit anybody to doomscroll and watch the news and constantly just spiral down into depression… So it might sound like a New Age cliché, but we have to practice self care, we have to eat well and exercise and spend time with people we love and help animals and do anything that keeps us sane and healthy.”

He captioned the clip with a note saying that he’s “bot sure if this helps in any way, but I’m trying to figure out how to respond to what happened. Please take care of yourselves.”

Moby is one of the very few politically vocal electronic artists, with the scene — and particularly the American artists and promoters in it — staying largely silent on the issue in the lead-up to and results following the consequential election.

Moby has long been vocal about his feelings about Trump, telling Billboard in May that “Sorry if you or anyone you know is Trump supporter, but I’m stunned that this horrifying — I mean, he’s almost like some evil, lizard, space alien person pretending to be human because it’s like he’s cartoonishly evil, but yet 50% of Americans want to vote for him.”

Following the election on Tuesday, other musicians including Cardi B, Marc Rebillet, Bette Midler, singer Ethel Cain and 50 Cent have all voiced their both negative and positive reactions to the news.
