Calvin Harris has explored country on his new single ‘Smoke The Pain Away’, the first song that he’s contributed vocals to in several years.
It is the Scottish producer’s first new music since his Ellie Goulding collaboration ‘Free’. Since then, he shared a remix of his 2016 Rihanna collaboration ‘This Is What You Came For’ in November, which was dubbed the ‘Calvin Harris VIP Mix – Amazon Music Original’.
After Harris teased his new single last week, it has finally arrived. The reflective country song finds Harris singing: “Eyes sparkle like sun in June / Grow up and wait for you / Wide awake in a hotel room / Thinkin’, ‘Oh, what I could do’,” he sings.
“Too late, I’ve been up for days / I can’t even see straight / No, I can’t smoke the pain away,‘ he adds.

Meanwhile, Harris made history this week by becoming the first artist to hold a double residency at Ushuaïa Ibiza.
The Grammy-winning producer, DJ, and songwriter will take over Tuesdays and Fridays at Ushuaïa Ibiza with 25 carefully curated shows this summer. From May 30 until September 12, Harris will perform his set every Friday and from July 1 until August 26, he will perform every Tuesday.
Single-night tickets to both of Harris’ Ushuaïa Ibiza residencies start at €120 (£100). You can visit here to purchase tickets and find more information on the events.
A press release promises “25 carefully curated shows, delivering a world-exclusive residency unlike anything seen before.” Speaking about the forthcoming residency, Harris shared: “This is something that’s never been done before, and I’m buzzing to be the first artist to hold a double residency at Ushuaïa Ibiza.”
In other Calvin Harris news, the artist picked up the Best Electronic prize at the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards in Manchester, defeating the likes of David Guetta, Disclosure and Fred Again… He also recently appeared to have scrapped a rumoured collaboration with Miley Cyrus called ‘Ocean’, and revealed that he plans to quit DJing when he turns 50.
