Former FIFTY FIFTY members Sio, Saena and Aran are set to reunite with Ahn Sung-il, the producer behind the their viral hit ‘Cupid’, for their redebut as ablume.
On February 26, Massive E&C – home to Sio, Saena and Aran – announced that The Giver CEO Ahn Sung-il would be involved in the trio’s upcoming redebut as the new K-pop group ablume. In its statement to Korean media, per Soompi, the members had personally requested to work with Ahn again.
Ahn had previously been accused by the trio’s former agency, Attrakt, of trying to “poach” the members in 2023, following the success of ‘Cupid’. Attrakt subsequently filed criminal charges against Ahn for alleged fraud, embezzlement, forgery, counterfeit, breach of duty and obstruction of business.
“At the request of the members, we asked CEO Ahn Sung-il to handle the producing [of their new music]. Ahn Sung-il agreed, so we wound up working together,” Massive E&C stated. While the trio are preparing for their upcoming redebut together, a release window for new music has yet to be announced.
In June 2023, the original four members of FIFTY FIFTY filed to suspend their exclusive contracts with Attrakt, which was later denied by a Seoul court. While all members initially appealed the decision, member Keena later withdrew her appeal and returned to the agency.
After a months-long legal battle, the agency terminated its contracts with Saena, Sio and Aran. Last November, Attrakt announced that FIFTY FIFTY would be re-organised with a new line-up centred around Keena. The band would later return with four new members and a mini-album titled ‘Love Tune’.
