Charli XCX is shown getting aggravated in a new clip from the Prime Video show Overcompensating.
The series, which airs on May 15, stars internet comedian Benito Skinner as Benny – a closeted former high school football player who befriends an outsider in order to fit in. The official trailer has a montage of scenes form the show, featuring sexual situations, college party chaos, and a final scene that reveals the ‘Brat’ artist’s involvement.
In a short but wild moment, she berates a shocked-looking assistant, shouting: “You think I wanna play fucking ‘Boom Clap’ in a fucking college – are you joking?” The artist guest stars as a comedic version of herself, as well as serving as the show’s executive music producer.
Overcompensating also features appearances from Kyle MacLachlan, Connie Britton, and Kaia Gerber, with Hollywood star Jonah Hill onboard as executive producer. Amazon will be producing the show alongside cult studio A24.
Having dominated 2024 with what fans described as ‘Brat’ Summer, Charli XCX looks to be making a move into acting. She has had small voice roles in The Angry Birds Movie and UglyDolls in the past, as well as appearing as herself in the 2021 reboot of TV show Gossip Girl.
Among a slew of upcoming projects, she is due to play her first starring role in The Moment, a mockumentary revolving around a pop star gearing up to lead her first headlining tour. Also made by A24, the film will be produced by the singer and co-star Alexander Skarsgård. The project recently began filming in London.
Elsewhere, Lily Allen has said that she was “surprised” to hear that Charli XCX wasn’t given a headline slot at Glastonbury 2025.
