Ana Bárbara Kicks Off Billboard Latin Women in Music 2024 With Spectacular Medley

Ana Bárbara is known for her spectacular performances and for taking over the stage. On Sunday night (June 9), she did it in spades, opening the second edition of Billboard Latin Women in Music with an impressive medley that included “Te Regalo la Lluvia,” “Los Caminos e la Vida,” “Qué Poca” and “La Trampa” accompanied by a live band of 13 musicians that included brass, guitars and accordion.

Ana Bárbara not only sang, including songs written by herself, but she danced, accompanied by a battalion of 12 dancers (six women, six men).

It was a spectacle worthy of the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for her 30-year exemplary career as a singer and songwriter. Ana Bárbara took the stage dressed in a long pink sequin cape, which she shed to reveal a pink bodysuit and chaps, a look few people can pull off.

But in the end, what stood out most was an exceptional voice.

Later in the evening, received her Lifetime Achievement award from her friend and fellow Mexican María José, with whom she later performed their new joint single, “Mi Rey, Mi Santo.”

“Ana Bárbara is an example of someone unstoppable,” said María José. “I identify with that strength and determination with which she has chosen to be an artist, but especially, the woman she is.”

A visibly emotional Ana Bárbara then picked up her award, and told the audience how she was the third of three daughters, much to her father’s dismay. “They expected a boy, and, well, I was born,” she said with a smile. “And that girl has tried to break down many frontiers and many barriers […] Than you Billboard for doing this for women. We have many more walls to tear down, but we’re doing well,” she added.

In its second annual edition, Billboard Mujeres en la Música also honored Karol G as Woman of the Year, Gloria Estefan as Legend, La India as Pioneer, Ángela Aguilar with the Musical Dynasty Award, Camila Cabello with the Global Impact award, Kany García as Spirit of Change and Kali Uchis as Rising Star.

In addition to airing on Telemundo on Sunday at 9 p.m. ET, the ceremony is also available on the Telemundo app and Peacock.
